CFOpenChat: stuck on "please wait" message
Posted Thursday, September 17, 2009 at {ts '2013-05-19 12:03:00'}

I did the "out of the box" install of CFOpenChat....one on the web root, and one nested inside of an application. Both times it gets stuck after joining a room with the message "Please wait..Initialization in progress."

Anyone get caught by this before? Its almost like its not picking up the JS files, but they are sitting right there in the chat directory with the cfm's

Update: when I deploy the chat module to my website (running IIS), http://danparker.us/chat/ it works fine.

I still haven't figured out why it doesn't work from localhost (running the built in CF webserver) under http://localhost/parker/chat.

I'm sure its something to do with JS pathing because the "toggle debug panel" link doesn't work on localhost either ...Error: $("#debugPanel").length is not a function.

I hope this helps someone else to debug if you are having issues..and I'm sure its something simple that I will embarrassingly post when I figure it out Smile

I've never run it using the built in server or on "localhost". I actually have apache running on my windows desktop for testing and I have several hosts set up using host headers.. ie, I do this:

I am having the same issue "out of the box". I am using IIS out of the box. I also noted that MSSQL is not happy with the "chat_content" script for a column named "content". All insights are appreciated.

Maybe if you provided the error message SQL gave, I could help.

As for the localhost issue, perhaps its some kind of javascript security issue. Try using Firefox and see if the error console reports any JS errors (control-shift-J launches it, I think) ... just the firefox error console, not firebug.

using firefox, hit ctrl-shift-j to bring up the error console and see if there are any javascript errors.

If you don't have firebug installed, install it, enable the "net" panel, and then load the chat again to make sure all the server requests loaded properly and did not error.

SOLUTION (for me anyway)....my problem was that the ColdFusion debugging was turned on...when I turn it off, it works on localhost and production.

I hope this helps others!!!

Ah, yeah, CF Debugging output would screw up ajax requests....

That just means you should switch to coldfire debugging for firebug Smile

Coldfire..I hear ya...the CF debugging messes me up the more involved I get with my JS stuff.....of course I couldn't get Coldfire to work the first time I tried to install the extension...seems to be a recurring trend with me, trying to incorporate you smart guys modules...ha ha Wink
