Smith Project - Open Source Coldfusion Server

The Smith Project, another alternative CFML server, announced yesterday that they've gone to an open source license.

From their web site:

07-May-2007

Smith goes open-source.

After the very positive feedback from the ColdFusion® Developer Community, youngculture decided to open source its ColdFusion® Server "Smith". Till the end of April Smith Application Server has been downloaded more than 6'000 times.

Developers are welcome to join the project. The project is published under the GPL Licence and will be run and maintained by the newly founded Smith Open Source Software Association (SOSSA).

I haven't tried Smith yet, but it looks promising.

Re: Smith Project - Open Source Coldfusion Server
I wonder how long it will take them to clear out the red "x" next to the tags and functions. I am looking forward to their progress and I hope they will one day be an alternative for CF devs.

Re: Smith Project - Open Source Coldfusion Server
I offered help and they have so far ignored my email. They'll probably never get there

Hello stewsnooze
we really had a lot of work the last couple of months. we did also worked a lot on preparing the product to go open source. i am sorry if we have ignored your email so far. i will forward that to our guys. i may take some more couple of weeks till we are able to push the whole project even more. but we are working hard on it also to put more dedicated ressources from our teams to the project.

kind regards

That is fantastic news. Well done. Sorry to be so demanding. I think what you are doing is important for a large community.

Re: Smith Project - Open Source Coldfusion Server
I want a cheap CF server for a home server that will serve up really simple pages for personal/family use. Can anyone compare the free version of Bluedragon with this new open source Smith project? Recommendations?

What I like about Smith Project is there to get up and running just unzip and run the two batch files startweb and startdb. Once I seen how easy it was, I dragged the files onto a thumb drive, and now i can create portable applications for crm or whatever and carry them with me wherever i go. Thanks Smith Project
